Park Slope Eats

Although it was years ago that I first ate there, Franny's restaurant is a new obsession of mine. When family is in town, or even when friends from Manhattan who rarely come to Brooklyn finally do visit, we go to Franny's. It always makes a great impression. The pizzas are delicious and the hors d'oeuvre (sunchokes, artichokes, and salads) are even better! The wine menu lists something for everyone, including wines from Tuscany and Umbria, to California and Australia. the staff is friendly, professional, and they know their flavors and wines quite well! Another gem of Park Slope is Blue Apron Foods, which happens to be on my block, its entrance on Union Street, corner of 7th Ave in Center Slope. The cinnamon sticks were just a little gift from one of the owners, Allen Palmer, when I told him I was browsing for something sweet to photograph... I had to get some of these cute cupcakes which I first saw in the window. I photographed the red velvet and chocolate ones they carry from Baked, another company based in Brooklyn, in the neighborhood of Red Hook, bordering the East River. And then I ate them! Delicious!! Another nice local shop is Leaf and Bean, also in Center Slope where I've bought many a dish as gifts for friends. (The peaches sit in a brown bowl from Leaf & Bean)
